The 3 Things Every Man Is Actually Chasing (Bonus 4th)

There’s a pattern most of us don’t notice.

But once we see it…

We can’t unsee it.

Every man, whether he admits it or not, is searching for a few core things.

Not surface-level goals.

Not money.
Not status.

Something deeper.

Something wired in.

These 3 are taken from one of my favorite books, Wild at Heart by John Eldridge

1. A Battle to Fight

We need resistance.

Something to push against.
Something that demands effort.

Because without a battle…

We create one.

We pick fights with people we love.
We argue over things that don’t matter.
We turn small problems into big ones.

Not because we’re broken.

Because we’re underutilized.

Energy with nowhere to go
will always find somewhere to land.

2. An Adventure to Live

We’re not built for monotony.

We’re built for movement.

For risk.
For uncertainty.
For something that pulls us forward.

Without it…

We drift.

And drifting turns into:

Addictions.
Escapes.
Numbing out.

Because if we don’t choose an adventure…

We’ll find one that chooses us.

And it usually costs more than we think.

3. A Beauty to Rescue

Not chase.

Not collect.

Protect.

Care for.
Show up for.
Build with.

Something or someone that makes us step outside of ourselves.

Because without that…

We start seeking validation instead of connection.

Attention instead of meaning.

And we end up trying to “rescue” everything…

Except what actually matters.

What happens without purpose

When these three don’t have a place to go…

They don’t disappear.

They distort.

The battle becomes internal… or relational.
The adventure becomes destructive.
The beauty becomes replaceable.

And life starts to feel chaotic…

Even when nothing is technically wrong.

The Hidden Fourth

There’s a fourth one.

Less talked about.

But just as important.

I realized this one myself :)

4. A Win That Can’t be Taken Away

Something undeniable.

Something earned.

Something no one can question.

Not opinions.
Not perception.

Proof.

Running 26.2 miles.

No one can take that.

Pulling 700 pounds off the ground.

No one can debate that.

Showing up, again and again,
until there’s no argument left.

We don’t just want progress.

We want certainty.

Something we can point to and say:

“I did that.”

Because in a world full of opinions…

That kind of proof is grounding.

It builds identity.

It builds trust.

It builds a quiet confidence that doesn’t need validation.

Why this matters

If we don’t choose these things intentionally…

We will find them accidentally.

And the accidental version is always more expensive.

More chaotic.
More destructive.
More temporary.

So the question isn’t:

“Do we need these?”

We do.

The question is:

Where are we directing them?

Final thought

We need:

A battle worth fighting.
An adventure worth living.
A beauty worth protecting.
And a win no one can take from us.

Get those right…

and life starts to feel aligned.

Get them wrong…

and we’ll spend years wondering why everything feels off.
